On the Night

Thank you for giving one night to shine a light on homelessness. Your support is helping Focus Ireland to end homelessness in Ireland.

Preparing for your sleep-out

  1. Choose your sleep spot: Pick a safe and secure outdoor space (such as a garden, balcony, carpark, work green space). If you have no outdoor space, choose somewhere indoors that isn’t your bed, such as a couch, living room floor or kitchen floor. Please ensure you do not sleep in a public place.
  2. Stock up on bedding supplies: Sleeping bag, pillow, bin liners (large and small), cardboard, warm clothing and lots of loose layers. Top tip: a hot water bottle is an excellent addition!
  3. Internet access: You will need access to the internet to join our virtual activities on shinealight.focusireland.ie. You can join via your phone or a laptop/tablet.
  4. Bathroom facilities and snacks: Please ensure you have access to bathroom facilities, a hot drink and some snacks.

Check out our ‘On the Night’ checklist to make sure you’re ready, warm and safe for the big night, and keep your eyes peeled on your inbox for a full running order for your sleep-out!

Bedtime – sleep tight!

Turn out the lights and brave the elements on your Shine A Light Night sleep-out. Remember to reflect on how fortunate you are to have a safe home, workplace or garden to sleep-out in. Remind yourself you are sleeping out in solidarity with people who do not have a place to call home.

5AM-8AM

Wake up and share your experience

Wake up the morning after Shine A Light Night and reflect on the experience. How do you feel? Was it a challenging evening? Did you get much sleep? Were you cold or wet? Share your experience online and ask people to donate to your fundraising page – well done and thank you for your support!

A huge, heartfelt thank you from Focus Ireland.

Together, we have moved one step closer to ending homelessness.
