Registering as a business leader:

The business leader sleep-out is for CEO’s, GM’s and MD’s in companies all over Ireland. In order to ensure everyone's safety, we are asking business leader's to host their own safe sleep-out in their home, garden, or workplace and join us online for a shared digital experience on Friday 15th October for #ShineALightNight! To register as a Business Leader, you'll need to either create a new JustGiving account or log into an existing JustGiving account. Any credentials used in previous years to register cannot be used, as the event is no longer powered by Everydayhero.

If you set up a new JustGiving account, the password:

  • Must be at least 12 characters
  • Must include at least one number, letter and special character (#,$,%,&,@ etc.)
  • Must not include your name or email address

If you get an error message stating that your email address has previously been used, please contact the JustGiving support team at help@justgiving.com who will be able help you access your existing JustGiving account.

Registering as part of a company:

If you are sleeping out on behalf of your company, this sleep-out option is for you! In order to ensure everyone's safety, we are asking our company supporters to host their own safe sleep-out in their home, garden, or workplace and join us online for a shared digital experience on Friday 15th October for #ShineALightNight! We ask company supporters to aim for a target of €1,000 to help our vital work. To learn more about hosting a virtual sleep-out, check out our guide HERE.

Registering as a member of the public:

You can host your own virtual sleep-out at home with friends, family, and people in the community on Friday October 15th or #ShineALightNight. You can sleep-out safely in your garden, on your couch, or on the leaving room floor. Just swap your comfy bed for one night in aid of people experiencing homelessness. Ensure your sleep-out spot is safe and not in a public place and you can join us for a shared digital experience from your sleep-out. We ask public supporters to aim for a target of €250 to help our vital work. To learn more about hosting a virtual sleep-out, check out our guide HERE.

Registering with your school:

You can host your own virtual sleep-out at your school or with your school friends from home on Friday October 15th for #ShineALightNight. You can sleep-out safely on the grounds of your school, or in your garden, on your couch, or on the leaving room floor. Just swap your comfy bed for one night in aid of people experiencing homelessness. Ensure your sleep-out spot is safe and not in a public place and you can join us for a shared digital experience from your sleep-out.

What if I don’t reach my target?

Your target is there to motivate you and we ask you to make every effort to achieve your goal to support our work in ending homelessness. We are so grateful for all your effort and the most important thing is that you give your virtual sleep-out and fundraising 110%!

I have reached my fundraising target – what do I do?

Well done on reaching your target, and keep up the good work! You can easily increase your target on your fundraising page, just make sure you're logged into your JustGiving account, go to your fundraising page and click the 'edit page' button in the bottom left corner. The option to update your target will then be presented to you.

How do I create a new team or join an existing team?

We're glad you asked! Just click your profile picture icon in the bottom left corner of the screen on your fundraising page, and click 'Edit page'. Go to the 'Team' tab and follow the prompts to join or create a team.

How do I take donations for my Shine a Light Night sleep-out?

We work with a fundraising platform called JustGiving to help with our online fundraising. When you register for Shine a Light Night, you will automatically receive a personalised fundraising page link. Your supporters can click this link and pay online to your page.

Someone donated offline to my sleep-out, what do I do?

Great news! You can add offline donations to your page, just follow these instructions:

  1. Make sure you're logged into your JustGiving account
  2. Click 'edit page' in your account
  3. You'll be presented with an edit screen, with the option to add offline donations in the top right corner
  4. These instructions should also help
  5. Alternatively, add the money to your bank account and donate it directly to your page via the JustGiving donation flow

Make sure to follow the instructions below if you have money you need to send to Focus Ireland.

How do I host a virtual sleep-out at home or in my workplace?

From the safety and security of your home, garden, or workplace you can sleep-out on Friday 15th October to help raise vital funds for people experiencing homelessness. Sleep-out in your garden in a sleeping bag or tent; sleep on your living room floor; sleep with your colleagues in your office car park – wherever you sleep-out on Friday 15th October, join us virtually for a shared digital experience to support people experiencing homelessness. Where can I sleep-out on Friday 15th October?

You can sleep-out in your garden, home or workplace on #ShineALightNight. If you can, it is best to sleep-out outside and brave the elements for the night! If you do not have an outside place in your home or workplace, you can always sleep inside on your living room floor, office meeting room, or bedroom floor. Just swap your comfy bed for one night to raise vital funds for people experiencing homelessness. Please ensure your sleep-out spot is safe and secure and you have access to bathroom facilities.

Please ensure you do not sleep in a public place.

What happens on Shine A Light Night?

We have loads of virtual activities planned for #ShineALightNight, which will kick off at 8pm on Friday 15th October on this site! We will have video talks from people Focus Ireland has supported, as well as discussions with our service managers who provide vital work to our customers. Our founder Sr. Stan, our CEO, Pat Dennigan, and the Managing Director of Bord Gáis Energy will also be making a virtual appearance on the night!

Do we have to take part on October 15th?

Yes - Shine A Light Night takes place on Friday October 15th and we are excited about recreating the special sense of connectedness we experienced on #ShineALightNight virtually last year. Having the event on one night allows business leaders, corporates, and the general public to come together and help to raise vital funds for people experiencing homelessness. It also sends a message of hope to people experiencing homelessness and allows us to all come together in solidarity together to show that homelessness is wrong.

How will COVID-19 impact Shine a Light Night?

Your safety on Friday 15th October is paramount. Due to COVID-19, we are operating a fully virtual event for all participants. Everyone will be hosting their own virtual sleep-out in the safety of their home, garden, or workplace while adhering to government guidelines for social distancing and gathering size.

We are determined that this will be our biggest Shine A Light Night to date, despite COVID-19 restrictions preventing us from hosting our annual physical events. Thank you to all our supporters for adapting to a virtual a #ShineALightNight this year!

I am hosting a sleep-out at work or at home, how do I stay safe?

Your safety is paramount on #ShineALightNight. Please follow all government guidelines in terms of social distancing and gathering size when organising your virtual sleep-out. You can host your sleep-out with friends, family, or colleagues while adhering to these guidelines. You can also connect with friends, family, and colleagues online on the night and join together in a shared digital experience.
