About Focus Ireland

Focus Ireland are driven by the fundamental belief that homelessness is wrong. We work with people experiencing homelessness as well as people who are at risk of homelessness, to try and prevent them from becoming homeless. From the very beginning, our work has been rooted in deep listening to people, learning about the problems and risks they face and pointing to where the solutions lie. This approach provides the bedrock on which we stand.

Homelessness affects real people, men, women, children, families, young people, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Throughout the last seven years, there has been a significant rise in family homelessness due to a lack of affordable, secure housing in Ireland. There are currently 913 families experiencing homelessness in Ireland, including 2,193 children. Many of these families will spend significant amounts of time in emergency accommodation before finding a secure home. Some families can spend over 24 months in a 1-bedroom room emergency accommodation situation, which has a significant impact on mental health, self-esteem and child development.

Emergency Accommodation is not a home for any child.
